What are your experience with buying used/secind hand Fanuc robot on the grey market.
What if you need replacement part for that robot, new software option the need to be install or the USB key for a factory reset?
We deal with fanuc and just having manuel is a pain , so I imagine having software and support from them is nightmare when your are not the original owner

I believe there is a "software relicensing fee", which Fanuc makes you pay before you are allowed any portal access, phone support, or purchasing of spare parts. I've heard the numbers vary, but it is in the thousands.
If true, Its a load of shit in my opinion. Ford doesn't have a "engine code relicensing fee" when I buy a used F150, and then take it to the dealership for an oil change.

Does the reseller not offer some support. Out first robot came from a reseller. They performed all the service on it over the years. I’m sure it was cheaper then going to yaskawa

This is what I hear. Waiting for Fanuc to call back to confirm.

From my understanding, the robot may come from a auction, so no warranty or after sale support.
I am debating if a used robot is really worth it.
Still waiting to hear from Fanuc -
I have a used robot with no license. When we bought it, we knew we weren't going to be able to add software options or anything like that. It's doing a very basic task, I was able to confirm in RG before we bought the robot that it would work with no options. I have access to myPortal because we also have a licensed robot so I can get manuals and parts lists; If I didn't have that access I wouldn't have bought the used robot. I have no regrets about buying the used robot but I definitely wouldn't have done it if I wasn't sure I wouldn't need any additional options.

I was told by non-technical person it's been $2920 & $3020 for new recently. No other details.

None of this is hard to accomplish when you are a Fanuc customer and have a purchase order to bill too.
When buying a used robot you should negotiate the price to reflect the relicensing fee.
Relicensing isn't that expensive but buying parts for a used robot is.
