Is it possible to mount a second switch remotely to switch the controller from Auto to T1 on a R-30iB controller? Long story short, there are 3 R-30iB controllers connected to M-10iA robots. The robots and teach pendants are on one side of a conveyor and the controllers on the other. We would like to have a switch for each robot mounted near the door and unfortunately we don't have the floor space near the door to place the controllers on a more accessible side.

It's not uncommon to remove the mode keyswitch and relocate it where you need. We get asked to do this more often than not. Dual keys is not something we've tried, if the key and tp are together there isn't much of a need to have one on the controller.

In the end, that key switch is just a key switch like any other one.
My only point I would not put a second switch, for safety reasons. I would just move/disable/remove the one on the controller and had only the one you need

This is possible with DCS and option J569 External Mode Select.
We have done it and it is working.

We have moved several mode switches and use MTW or THHN wire run in conduit without any issues.

As to using two switches in parallel, this would be pointless, as both key switches would need to be in the same position. This would make having a remote switch more cumbersome to use then one by itself.

In our case, the point of having two switches for two working areas was that when error occured, operator could switch to T1 before entering the cell. Breaking the light curtain would only stop the positioner and not the robot.

dha - just curious, but why wouldn't you use HOLD and then the Fence input to stop the robot? What am I missing?
I agree with Somar and DaveP. Moving the Mode Switch is very common, B-style controllers up on mezzanines is a good example.

After turning the key to T1, operator should take out the key and carry it while he is inside the cell.

You could achieve the same ends by using gate keys/plugs and integrating them in to the fence circuit and or the servo off circuit. This will allow removal of the mode key from normal production and create a more reliable safety plan.

The 2-position T1/AUTO switch is a pair of contacts. Both are open in T1 and closed in AUTO mode.
Any number of additional switches may be connected in series (any one will activate T1 mode when Off) or in parallel (any one will activate AUTO mode when On).
