very exciting does this mean it is connected?

    Yes.

    Quote from dieselxj

the robot pet name project is open with a green check

So, a KRC4 can contain multiple Projects, but only one can be active at any given time. The green check indicates which one is active.

A Project contains both configuration settings (including I/O setup and mapping) and programs.

It's possible to switch between projects on the pendant, without using WoV.

    Quote from dieselxj

do i need to activate the hardware on the left side of the WOV

I suggest opening the active project, then doing a Save As under a new name. Then, make your changes to the copy. When you have the changes complete, you can Deploy the copy, and it will be pushed to the KRC and activated under the new name. This way, the original will remain unchanged. So you always have the original as a fallback, if something goes wrong with your changes.

To do configuration edits, yes, you need to "activate" the controller in the Project Structure tree:

Correct, there are 3 valves. Valve 1 is 1A/1B, valve 2 ist 2A/2B and valve 3 is 3A/3B. The valve diagram in the operaring instructions gives all the information which are necessary. Regarding the mapping of the outputs see one of my above posts.

The max. allowed air pressure is 7 bar. Don't use oil! The air must be dry, filtered and oil-free.

Check if you correctly connected air to the AIR1 connection located on the robot base.

Open all caps (1A/1B, 2A/2B, 3A/3B and also R) for testing and turn the outputs for the valves on and off. If nothing happens but you can hear the valves switching it could be that the valve unit is defective. In the past this happened on two of my KR AGILUS robots.

    HI ALL,

I am working on a KRC 5 controller, and I have the same error, not quite sure how to get rid of these 2 errors In WoV.

12:00:16 PM Following option packages used in the solution are not installed in WorkVisual: GripperSpotTech(V5.0.5), KUKA.EtherNetIP MS(V5.1.3), SafeOperation(V3.6.1). If you would like to use them, you have to install the option.

12:00:44 PM Error in DTM EtherNet/IP: IP source address configured in the DTM is not available on your system. To be able to go online, please correct this in Settings user interface.

I am resurecting this thread. i hope all are well.

Not much has changed since it left off. Except i had main computer trouble and lost my Kuka Workvisual install. I still want this robot arm to run some kind of simple on off switch for a plasma cutter or SOMETHING . i have not given up on the pneumatics , and that is where i want to pick up. But i need to re-learn a lot of stuff i have forgotten in almost 2 years.

So today i have re-activated my kuka account and i am downloading the latest copy of work visual 6.032 build 3. Please advise if this is no longer going to work, and i need to find a older version. My last version was 6.029

Also i am wanting to talk about adding a Digital I/O card Beckhof EK1100 . i can get the Beckoff ek1100 for $50. and the i think i just need a circuit breaker and a 24v power supply? correct. Do i need a Digital IO card???? My KRC4 compact does not have a X12 connector. Is that a age thing, and i don't need it anymore?

So in case the pneumatics don't work out, i have a fresh copy of Workvisual to work on the Beckoff if i need it. But first i need to resurect the program i had that got the solenoids to clck

I also want to talk about getting a post processor to help make CAD circles into KRL moves

    thanks in advance

The first is simply a WoV warning. You shouldn't have to install the option in WoV, as long as the robot has it. But you can install it easily enough from the robot.

The IP address error is, again, a WoV warning, not a robot issue. It only effects using WoV to monitor EIP. Honestly, I've never used it. But you need to set it to the correct NIC and IP of the computer that WoV is running on.

You never mentioned what KSS version your KRC is running, so it's hard to say for certain. But generally, newer WoV is almost always backwards compatible with older KSS versions.

The X12 connector, IIRC, only comes with the KRC5 if the KRC5 is ordered with the Beckhoff I/O from the factory.

You could add the EK1100, probably, but if the KRC already has EIP, why bother? Just buy some EIP I/O modules.

Circuit breakers and/or fuses are always a good idea. You should be very careful about drawing power from the KRC. Ideally your I/O would have its own separate power supply, and the KRC would be safely isolated.

That depends entirely on what CAD/CAM software you're using, and what (if any) KUKA post-processors it supports.

Fusion 360, for example, has (or had) an unofficial KUKA postprocessor, but I've never seen it actually used.

    What pneumatics?

hi Skyfire, thanks for the quick reply. The arm is a KR10 r1100 sixx. It has a built in Pneumatic IO solenoid set on the arm between j4 & j5. It has 7 ports. There are also 2 electrical ports there as well, this is labeled Air2. I did manage to get these solenoids to click , but i could not get air to switch.

So if i can get back to where i was a few years ago, I had the solenoids in the arm firing, but not functioning. i want to remove the cover and see if i can't get eyes or probes onto the solenoid block. The new solenoid blocks are $250 ish. The pneumatics would be one way to turn on and off a torch.

I have KSS version 8.3. From a few years ago i had downloaded workvisual 5, but after some discussion on this thread i downloaded and used workvisual version 6 so i could try and map the IO . In the end i think i did not Map very well and just used i think some guess work to get the pneumatic solenoids fire . So if i need i have a fresh copy of work visual 6.3

    PLEASE what is EIP????

Do i even need a dedicated external IO module ( beckhoff ek1100) ????? or does the KRC4 compact have its own native OEM Digital IO set That can fire a output solenoid

The KRC should not require any additional hardware for I/O and/or valves that came as part of the robot. There should be a special I/O module already in the project tree to support this:

Good afternoon. NO good progress to report on the air valvess, I can hear them but i cant see them. BUT NOW bigger problem. I got a E-stop not found error while trying to move to a new spot, and now nothing. I was working on some air valve activation testing, writing small programs to see about the other valves. and now i can not get past the initial start up screen.

i have a network not found , and unable to configure network automatically error.

i kind of think i have a E-stop/ X11 connector problem. I never did anything with this. the X11 has been wired by the Previous owner to just 8 NON JUMPER wires , 2 sets of 4 wires,. one set of 4 wires goes to a momentary push button switch, and the other set goes to a little DIN rail junction?, that looks like a jumper, but longer, and ohms out as a junction. Then there are many jumpers that fill out the rest of the x11 connector. All jumpers at the X11 seem!! good

In the past on start up i got so far and had to push the momentary on button and then the rest of the boot up would take place and off i we go.

But now nothing happens when i push the momentary button. I'm checking the button now

yep I'm gonna need some help on this one.

i can get into a sub directory or something that is dealing with network and IP address, it is called " Session manager menu "

then , if you click thru some of the menus there are several IP addresses listed and i have no idea which if any are the correct ones. I tried putting in one from a picture i had and nothing happened, I think that was on a " ping " screen.

    my main error currently is

"could not set IP adddress" next line just below "unable to configure IP address automatically"

up top in the center on left i got a red person with a safety belt-- Yellow "IP" in the middle-- then Red robot on the right.

i think this can be saved, if i don't F$T% it up by pushing the wrong button at least i hope

I also have a first error of

either cat communication time out packet missing

    push the button and then

    ip address request failed

then " could not set ip address, unable to configure IP address automatically

    any help is appreciated

    EIP = "EtherNetIP"

EK1100 is not an I/O module, it is a bus coupler. in other words it allows connecting bunch of modular (and flexible/economical) I/O modules to a fieldbus.

i re reading the read first stuff, but did not seeing any direct answer of how to recover or what to look for. i have found i think 3 different IP addresses . I am aware of the IP addresses of death. I did not knowingly change anything.

I was tooling along playing through a 4 line program to try and add a command i think when

, got a message about the e stop, . i was not able to recover, so i power cycled and now i am at the IP address loss.

please be advised i am Far from a robot pro, i have a extremely!!! basic understanding of how all the hardware communicates internally . So If there is more than 3 ip address choices and the wrong one can kill this thing DEAD then yes i asked for help first

YES I am deeply sorry i did not attempt to make the FREE version of the robot back up, but even that is sort of beyond my comfort zone on what i can do with a computer. But Paying the $### for the Kuka branded stick. was too tough as well.

If the robot ever recovers i will abolutely make the back up system copy .

Can i manually type in a IP address somewhere on the " session manager menu"???

I am sorry to be so basic but Is this correct.--

The controller has a IP address, and the arm has a different IP address? And that is like the most basic network? Does the Hand teach pendant have a IP address? And then when i connect my laptop to the controller with Workvisual, i am making the network a bit bigger by adding the IP address of my laptop.? Is that how it works?

Just curious What other pieces have a IP address?

, I just learned that there might be 2 processors in the KR c4 compact control; one for the arm , and one for the Safety??

A while back at work i thought that a E-stop on a machine was just relayed into a power disconnect, but the IT guy told me that all the E-stops were now on networks.

From reading other posts , this seems like a pretty common problem, And i have not seen a way to recover yet if i don't have a back up file. I hope this is not true

HI Panic Mode I hope you or someone can help

    here is your quote

"since you are not experienced with KRCs, please stop doing things without planning. every step you make can take you further and further away from a functional system, aka when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging... you need to know what and how you are supposed to do, before you do it."

So this is where i am .

i don't know enough to make the computer make the quote; but it was from here on this very topic of " unable to configure IP address automatically "

i hope you have a tiny bit of :grinning_squinting_face:

    thanks

I hope this is not true.

Unfortuntly it is true. So either restore backup image with kuka ecovery tool and stick or start reinstalling everything from scratch. First Windows Image from kuka stick with recovery tool of Kuka and then KSS.
