I have just finished replacing the capacitors and the CMOS battery in the motherboard of a KRC1 pc. Before the repair the screen on the KCP would display nothing and pc would not boot but now I get: CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded.
If I understand correctly this means that the BIOS settings have been lost and I need to reset them to kuka default. The problem is that I can't access the Bios settings.
I have a keyboard connected but when I press DEL nothing happens, I have tried a different keyboard with no luck. I have also tried shorting the pwr pins on the motherboard and no change. Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be much appreciated.

Check "Num Lock" on - Obvious but check...
Our KRC computer works with when we press "ESC" and "F10" in sequence...
Hope that works. GL! -
does it power up at all ?
if you press eject on the cd does it eject ?
-
you first need to replace battery that is used for CMOS backup...

Thanks edkorea I will try that in the morning. The unit powers up and the cd drive has power but the pc does not boot properly. I have already replaced the CMOS battery.
Here is a picture of the KCP screen.

I see that it correctly detected CPU, memory and HDD (WesternDigital) but not CD drive (disconnected or faulty?).
Also at this stage you cannot press F1 if you don't have keyboard. It's been long time since I worked on KRC1 but I am pretty sure that keyboard on teach pendant would not work in BIOS (need to boot into windows and load drivers first). Note old keyboards with DIN5 and PS2 connectors do not support hot plugging. This means working keyboard MUST BE connected BEFORE controller is powered up...
good luck...

Hi again and thanks for your replies.
The keyboard has a DIN 5 plug, I tried plugging the other one in in before startup but no change.
It looks like the keyboard isn't getting any power, the lights for caps, num and scroll lock do not blink on startup like they do on the other unit I have, nor do the lights come on when the buttons are pressed.
Could the keyboard plug be faulty or is there anything else I could try?
