    Thanks MOM.

Please suggest a better HDD image cloner for KRC2 .

Can I do the traditional Windows backup method as mentioned below for cloning?

Do this cause any issue to the robot after changing HDD

Step 1. Open the Start menu and click on "Accessories."

Step 2. Find System tools and click on "backup."

Step 3. Check "Always start in Wizard Mode."

Step 4. Click "Next" when Welcome to the Backup Wizard shows.

Step 5. Click on "Backup everything on this computer."

Step 6. You can backup to another drive or back up to an external device.

Step 7. Click next and wait for the wizard to finish backing up your Windows XP.

    cheers!

I normally use Acronis True Image together with an usb-ide adapter and store image on my laptop.

With this image then you can create a new hdd.

If using wd hdd there is also a chance to use Acronis true image wd (free of charge "wd tool")

I think that the windows backup just saving files and is not made for hdd cloning

Thankyou for pointing out your view on my query.

I read a lot threads in the forums and think CLONEZILLA and ACRONIS is the best option for KRC2

I am planning of using clonezilla for my Krc2 (v5.5.16).Please share your opinions on that.

Do I need to take any special care while using clonezilla ?

    cheers mates !

    I never worked with clonezilla

One advantage of Arconis true image is: you may mount the image and copy files out of the image

You also can file based or sector based images

Not particularly. With any disk-cloning software, you need to take care not to accidentally overwrite a disk. So paying careful attention to details when selecting which disk is the source, and which the destination, is always required.

CZ can do Disk-to-Image, Image-to-Disk, and Disk-to-Disk cloning. In your case, you want to do a Disk-to-Image first. That will create a large compressed file that contains the entire contents of the hard drive being cloned. It's hard to shoot yourself in the foot that way.

In the future, you can reverse this process, using Image-to-Disk to write the image onto a new hard drive. This will create a perfect copy of the original hard drive on the new drive.

One caveat: you'll need to find a new hard drive that is compatible with the KRC2 (meaning PATA/IDE), and not too large -- the KRC2's old BIOS can't handle huge hard drives. I don't recall the exact limit, but I think 4GB HDDs were the upper limit. Ideally, buy a new hard drive that's the same size as the one you are replacing.

    Thankyou for your replies.

I have ordered a Samsung HDD with same specs.

Planning to do the cloning as soon as it arrives.

    Will update soon.

    thanks and cheers!
