I’ve got a KR C4 with WorkVisual 6 and a smartpad 2. Where do I go to install GripperTech/Gripper&SpotTech? I would like to program the status keys to turn on the guide laser and stuff like that. Could I just not have GripperTech and/or UserTech?

Probably should have added, I’m using KSS 8.6.5

i am sure you can but that is a commercial product so you first need to buy it from KUKA

Oh. Is there any way to manually put a program into the smartpad to use those buttons?
-
you can make use of IS_KEY_PRESSED, for example:
PostRE: Binding functions to the white User-Buttons
those are called Status Keys
normally to use them you would need a tech package such as GripperTech or UserTech.
optionally you can also read the button presses using diagnostic function IS_KEY_PRESSED(14..17). but this does not take into account if and which status key bar is selected, it does not show any icons, it can only work on real robot (not OfficeLite or OPS) etc. in other words - this can only be used as a crutch when nothing else uses status keys.

For that, do I need to add to an existing program, or can I just put it anywhere?
-
save that code as SK.SRC, transfer it to robot, open SPS.SUB and in the user section (inside LOOP/ENDLOOP) add new line:
SK()
close and save SPS.SUB
then use menu Display>Variable>Flags
set T1 mode, press and hold enabling switch and press each status key.

Yes but not with nice icons on the buttons.
either GripperTech or UserTech you can have Icons for the Buttons.
otherwise write in submit a program and use Is_Key_Pressed(14....17) to check if the buttons are pressed
its the "quick and dirty" version if you need buttons quick
IF Is_Key_Pressed(14) THEN

upps took too long

yes, there would be need for some program to make the icons appear. UserTech is harder to master but it allows greater customization. Sometimes that is also not enough. One of the limitations is that UserTech can only run scripts on some event. For example it can change icon(s) only at the moment user presses one the status keys or selects another status key bar. It cannot spontaneously show different state for example if during process something happens (clamp fails to pick part etc.). In case like that custom solution is the only way out.
