Choice of Safety PLCs..?

    Hello everyone,

    There was several posts where users tried to use various safety PLCs to connect to KRC4 using fieldbus.

    As far as i am aware choice is limited and one has to stick with PLC brand that was driving force behind specific fieldbus development:

    For CIP Safety (EtherentIP) – only AB safety PLCs (Logix)

    For ProfiSafe (ProfiNet) – only Siemens safety PLCs (SxF)

    For FSoE (EtherCat) – only Beckhoff safety PLCs

    Did anyone succeed in using other PLC brands for this and can you report your results or any pitfalls etc. Basically what made it work (if at all) as a a safety controller for one or more KRCs...

    I am not really interested in using hardwired (parallel) safety interface. I know that can work with any PLC. I know that non-safe fieldbus connection with other PLCs is also normally not a problem (Omron etc.). The question here is specifically about successes and failures with safety network between PLC and KRC.

    The question is if they worked without issue with KRC. I want to hear from people that tried to do this with KRC specifically. I am asking because couple of people told me that they tried to use different brands of PLCs but ended giving up. Two that I know of tried using Omron and KRC using CIP Safety and they were not successful.

    About the NC guys and parameters on Siemens NC for machining centers. In the NC the parameters are stored in several big arrays which have just very short names that make nearly no sense. So configuring everything on those machines seems to be from the first half of the last century. 🤔🙄

    But they can handle it.

    Second part is the programming on the NC. They have a built in PLC, and there must exist a program on NC side and on PLC side where handling of the safe inputs/outputs must match exactly. This is the two channel check, so NC handle one channel and PLC handle one channel of a safe output.

    Because the NC has a complete different programing language than the plc, creating the safe programs is also a challenge.
