Do you know if I can still use the robot (running a specific program) without SmartPad? Is there any way to bypass it?
My system: KR C4, SmartPad & KR 30HA.

Yes, you can. KRC4 allows us to run the robot without SmartPad connected. You have to press a white button on SmartPad which will allow you to have few seconds to disconnect the SmartPad from controller without hurting the robot operation.
Specifically, you have to either have the robot in External mode, and started/controlled from an external I/O device, or start the program from the SmartPad in AUT mode, and then disconnect the SP afterwards. The latter approach has obvious drawbacks.
Hm... one thing I haven't tried is using Virtual Remote Pendant in place of the SmartPad on a "headless" KRC4. It ought to work....
as i recall, one issue with VRP is that it cannot connect if controller is not in EXT mode. if the mode is already EXT then VRP can connect and be used to change mode...
Well, I've actually changed modes on some KRC4s recently from VRP. But the pendant had to be switched into "remote" first. I didn't try disconnecting the pendant, though, just switched it to allow VRP to take control.
Still, anyone who wants to run a KRC4 "headless" would be best to use EXT mode, definitely.
If the smartpad is disconnected VRP will connect to the controller in every running mode.
Sir,
Is it possible to connect VRP while smart pad is disconnected.
I was trying to connect VNC viewer but it was connecting only when smartpad is connected.
If this is possible please guide the way how can I do this.
VRP should work with the SmartPad disconnected, although your ability to switch between Teach and Auto modes may be impaired -- I've seen inconsistent results doing this, which apparently varies for different KSS revision levels.
VNC on KRC4s, as far as I've seen, only works through the SmartPad because the VNC server actually runs on the SmartPad processor, rather than on the central processor. I should add, though, that I've done very little VNC with KRC4s, so I could easily be incorrect on this.
