KRC4 does not have serial ports, or support any means of adding them, to the best of my knowledge. Your only option to get RS232 serial is probably to add a FieldBus adapter with an RS232 bridge.
CREAD and CWRITE are still part of KSS, since they are system functions used for more than just serial. It's just the COM-port handle no longer goes anywhere.
Thanks.
So how can I send my robot position to another computer on KRC4? USB? Lan?
talk to your local Kuka rep or read older messages on the forum. Kuka no longer supports RS232, to communicate with external devices or computers you can use ethernet. Kuka offers:
a) RSI for real time communication (also allows changing robot position on fly)
b) EthernetKrlXml
c) OPC
Of course you can also use any fieldbus to exchange data if the other node also supports it.
Thank you,
1. I am here because I belive you have better knowledge than Kuka rep, I belive that's why this forum works.
2. I have used "search" on this forum, found nothing
3. again: does KRC4 have built in possibility like KRC2 factory built in serial port to send data. Without additional Kuka packages.
Regards
No, RS232 is no longer supported.
If you look through the forum for discussions of EKI, RSI, OPC, you will find a great deal of information.
But, in the end, unless you can use EtherCat (which would probably still require some sort of intermediary device, like a small PLC), you probably can't transfer data between 2 KRC4s without some add-on package, either hardware of software or both.
You could look into JOpenShowVar, although that's very much a homemade solution.
1. many people that help here are Kuka employees
2. not sure how is that supposed to hapen, i get 30 hits for "RSI" and 63 for "EthernetKRL"
3. no
Is it possible to use USB to Serial converter?
the short answer is no
(though in right hands... everything... is possible)
