Fault in configurating network settings KR C5 micro

In KRC5 there is a bunch of ports... they all have special functions and some may be enabled by software options. so you must connect to correct one. several of them are some sort of "KLI" but if i recall correctly, one that you want is XF5

Which settings? Where in the pendant? There's a KUKA page for setting the network configuration, but it's also possible to get to the underlying Windows 10 layer and make changes there (NEVER DO THIS!). It should not be possible to break the KRC/SmartPad connection through the KUKA config page, but making changes in the Windows network config is almost guaranteed to make the robot nonfunctional.

I recommend connecting a monitor directly to the KRC5 (there's a DisplayPort port marked XGDC in Panic Mode's photo) and checking what is displayed.

1. ALWAYS familiarize with equipment BEFORE making changes

2. ALWAYS make backup before making changes

3. if you are not experienced enough with the equipment, always DOCUMENT what you are changing (where and how EXACTLY).

4. if you run into a problem, it means that you already screwed up so don't make it worse. in other words, when you find yourself in a hole - stop digging. make sure to REALLY know what the next step is and HOW to execute it WITHOUT doing any more screwups...

Some of those things are mentioned in READ FIRST.

about point 3 : If you changed network settings in a WRONG place (like on SmartPad own software rather than HMI), reverse the change using same steps you already did (which you were supposed to DOCUMENT). on KRC4 and KRC5 teach pendant is not a stupid device like on older geenrations using KRC1/KRC2. this is a computer (has own memory, OS, menues etc.) which is why it is called smartPad (has onboard inteligence). when you are using smartPad, it is important to keep track which software (or menu entries) you are actually using.

note that HMI is piece of software that does not run on smartPad - it runs on KRC and smartPad only displays it via remote desktop. so any time you are using HMI, your interactions are forwarded to KRC and applieed to HMI there. and to change KRL settings, login, then navigate to HMI menu Start-Up>Network Configuration etc.

But...

if you turn mode switch to setup postion and THEN press menu button, you will no longer see HMI, you will be navigating software that runs on the smartPAd itself. what you see now is no longer the remote desktop connection...

this is why your statement like this are completely useless (they do not say how and where EXACTLY change was made):

when you cannot see the HMI on smartPad - do not use smartPad - you can connect external monitor, keyboard and mouse to KRC and then you can use HMI there. Then you can still make backup for exampe etc.

why wouod you do that? robot is supposed to already have that address. and if you did that on the smartPad menu, rather than in HMI KLI configuration, it is no wonder that you lost the connection - both KRC and smartPAd now have same IP address. so rather than connectiong to each other, they are only talking to themselves.

smartPad RDP settings should be accessible through smartPAd menu (not HMI menu) using Configuration>RDP>...

172.16.x.x and 172.17.x.x are internal networks used by KRC. smartPad connects to 172.17.0.1 but in this case this is no longer possible.

but, since you are already in the hole, stop digging...

think before you do something else that may make things worse.

ask yourself if you do have a good backup. if answer is no, create one right now - system may not be functional but you do need ability to at least restore this state. also you need all your programs, settings and option packages... and a good idea is to create more than one form of backup.

after that:

if you do have a good backup image, restore it and you are done.

but....

if you do not have a good backup image, try restoring one from hidden partition (if one is still there). otherwise contact KUKA to get factory image.

depending on history of the robot this may or may not get you back to a working system (you may need to select correct, robot, configure external aes etc.). but at least it should get you back to the point where smartPad connects to KRC. then you will need to load back options and your working project that you backed up.
