Hi, vintage robot user here. (m410 rj2)

I have a pcu thats gone down, it is an A16b-3200-0042, it has an eprom with version 4.22 software on it.

My question is, if I pick up a second hand part can I just swap out the eprom from my old board if the new one does not have the same version? I tend to drop a simple program in through the tp as its only palletising.

    Thankyou

    Paul

The eprom only has the bootloader, normaly you will have to load the software yourself.

Or, in case you have a backup, load the backup.

If you are not able to do that, try to buy a pre-installed board.

Be sure to give all the information of the robot as there are a lot of versions of robots.

Use the newer V4.22P Boot monitor EPROM when given a choice.

Are you buying the replacement Main Board with or without the daughter cards?

I was hoping to buy the whole thing, although I have two others here that had their own issues, so lots of cards that might be ok.

The issue is I cant find anyone who can now upload the software onto these CPUs, it seems its just all too old now. If anyone has a contact I'd be grateful, this robot is just not busy enough to justify an upgrade.

You can try IRSA, they helped me several times with this sort of things.

IRSA Robotics | Industrial Robotics | Services | Automation
IRSA Robotics is specialized in Industrial Robotics. We have a large supply of Refurbished and New Robots and parts of the brands FANUC and KUKA in stock.

Bought a few items from Global Robots but can't vouch for their service.

Do you have the software disks or a controller backup?

Hi, thankyou for the link, I'll give them a go.

We use global for a few things, but they no longer have the capability to upload to the old RJ2 boards.

Look for someone with a Fanuc Kfloppy emulator setup. You would still need the software.

Maybe a silly question but, I had assumed the memory is kept on RAM but, I see they are flash memory. Does this mean I could buy a new cpu and swap my existing eprom and flash memory card onto it and keep the same software and programs, possibly avoiding the issue I have at present which is now an intermittent failure to boot (TP stuck on initial screen).

If there is a CompactFlash card installed, it is only for backups.

In theory, you could save an image backup to the CF card and restore that after swapping the main board with its CPU and RAM daughterboards.

Yes, there is a CF card installed, I can try to backup using that, thankyou, def worth doing.

I have a feeling that a fresh board but swapping the eprom and the ram cards over might sort this, its worth a try before giving up no the robot.

I'll report back in case anyone else is keeping one of these things going against all the odds!!

Just to be clear, the static RAM and ROM will be wiped when they are pulled from the main board.

As an R-J2, it should be a PCMCIA slot adapter. You should see MC (Memory Card) as a device you can select for your backup. You will need to do a controller backup to the MC.

At one point I felt I had nothing to lose with this board, so I pulled the board, unhooked the aa battery and pulled all the cards for an hour, in an effort to reset the whole thing. Unexpectedly it did help but also I kept the software and programs intact.

That's highly unusual but glad it worked!
