Has anyone any experience integrating a Fronius robotic welding system into an s4c robot?

If so, what is involved? is it as simple as connecting up some I/O and installing the arcware or is there more to it? I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

    Hi Sean,

I’m looking to take this on soon although mine is an S4C+. Is your fronius a TPS or TPSi?

From what I gather, you’ll need a local net splitter cable that goes from the welder to both the wire feeder and robot controller. I think from there you should have a Rob5000 or RobTst unit in your controller that handles the interface.

    Have you started yet?

We have a current welding setup that was done by another company that we bought as a complete already integrated setup. It consists of an IRB 2400L s4c and a Fronius TPS 320i. However it seems to be controlled via I/O both antilog and digital. This may be the case as the s4c doesn't have the same Ethernet connect abilities as s4c+. See attached image of interface system.

The new setup we need is a 500 amp welding machine, it will be connected to an IRB2400L also, however I have not yet bought the robot so I could get it in either s4c or s4c+.

I would get the company we used previous to do it only they are messing me about and not responding. So I would like to do it myself to save the hassle. However I would like to know what is involved, it might be a question I need to pass on to Fronius.

Ok so I worked on it today and was able to strike an arc.

Mine is has a similar interface as yours (robTst). This unit basically connects to the AI/AO and DI/DO on the robot. Then connects to a plug on the side of the controller. Then the local net splitter cable connects to the welder and wire feeder.

The welder has to be set up as a unit in the process file.

It seems relatively straightforward although the unit I’m working on was previously hooked up to a fronius welder so some of the hard work was already done.

You may need a key string or some sort of license for arc ware though?

I have some good fronius manuals if you DM me.

Don't forget Fronius tech support. I've found them helpful and quite knowledgeable about interfacing in the past.

They sent me these files quite a few years ago that may help.
