Short Term Chain Abnormal error

    So this one has been a journey. I have an RJ3iB controller giving a short term chain abnormal error (not chain 1 or chain 2 specific). Tried changing the door panel board, e stop unit, servo amp, cable between door panel board and estop, cable between estop and servo amp, TP cable and the teach pendant. None of it fixed anything. I jumpered EES and EAS (1,11,2 and 21) and then everything worked fine but when i actually plugged in the connecting piece thats all wired up to the fence and all then the error comes back. So the issue is with either EES or EAS but i really dont know anything about those connections.

    One last thing it works in auto just fine even with it wired up, no jumpers needed but T1 or T2 the error comes back.

    I dont even know how to test the wires from EES and EAS so I am at a loss. Do I need to call in the electrician who wired this up in the first place or can I deal with it myself?

    That board doesnt look familiar, is it supposed to be the estop board or the door panel board?

    At any rate the EES and EAS wires connect to a box full of wires that go out from there to our buttons, safety gate sensor, etc. And i know which wires are the ones connected from inside because they are numbered but i have no idea how to find out which one is the problem. Do i use a multimeter? If so where do i put the probes to measure and am i measuring voltage or continuity or something else?

    These connections can only be made by someone who knows what they are doing. Connections that seem to have been used and conditionally connected from special relays with multiple contacts. Without a diagram, it would be difficult to understand what the cable numbers mean. But you need to disassemble many places and check them one by one with a measuring instrument. Some of the equipment, such as a door sensor or switch, also probably works with external voltage, but with contact logic. That's why it looks like a special contact relay was used. The error code given by the robot is "SRVO-...." I like exactly what it says. The link where it shows the error also needs to be looked at in detail.

    I went through all the steps that the manual and the diagnostic screen have for this particular error. I dont have the exact srvo number in front of me but i could get it if it would help you. That being said, i already did everything for that error that every piece of documentation i have on hand tells me to do with no success.

    I think ill probably have to call the electrician to investigate the connections then. Probably the only person who understands that box at this point.

    It is common when not using a safety PLC to have the robots safety chain series linked to the external safety interfaces,.

    What byrol has mentioned is a way of 'eliminating or proving' whether the robot or the external safety interfacing is at fault.

    From what you describe, you've pretty much replaced all you can on the robot side, so it's case of troubleshooting the external safety interfaces now and it you don't feel confident yourself, getting someone else in is a very good call :top:
