I am an Undergraduate studenIt and my final year report is based on the KUKA iiwa robot. There is a 400-page around manual. But is so basic. I have looked lots of topic in this Forum. I wonder that where you guys get such complex program? I feel so hard to learn to use the sunrise workbench. Could someone tell me how to learn to use sunrise workbench professionally. I just can use some basic command to write the program because of the basic manual I only have. Thanks a lot!

did you take training? it is a 10 day course...

Thanks for replying! I study in the University of Birmingham, UK. So where can I take the course? Learning from the manual is so hard! The command in the manual is so basic.

contact your nearest kuka (UK) for info and booking. if you speak English, there are courses in USA (June) and Germany (May). If you are good with German, there are more dates in Germany.

Thank you very much! But the closest English class is on 6, May, Germany, which is too late LoL. Is there another way to learn it by myself?

contact kuka UK

The first time it's not that intuitive. You need someone at first showing you at least the basics of getting the robot up and running:
- Plug-in the cables
- Configuring your PC / Robot
- Creating a new project from scratch
- setting you robot configuration, and install it.
- Setting safety AMF's
- Activate the Safety on the robot
- Jogging the robot manually
- Writing simple programs and upload them to the robot
- Running the programs in test modes before going fully Auto
- Teach points to the robot, etc.You can do a lot of complicated tasks with the iiwa's. All what I mentioned is not very complicated, you need someone from Kuka or trained by KUKA to get you started. The rest in your programming skills and imagination.

Is your robot already set up? Did students or professors attempt to use it previously? Do you have any coding experience in Java? It is essential that you understand Java at least to the point of class structure and inheritance if you want to be able to use an already set up robot. Coding an iiwa in my experience has been a computer science project more than anything else, so make sure to understand how to code. I know there are a couple of KUKA employees that travel around the USA that might be able to help you at some point. If you are working with a professor, see if they can get you in contact with someone from KUKA, otherwise, contact KUKA yourself to determine when someone might be around to help.
I learned how to code in Sunrise without any help from employees or previous students; just me and the manual (but with the understanding that this robot can be very dangerous if controlled irresponsibly). It is definitely possible to learn if you have enough time on your hands, you just need to be very meticulous about what you are reading, then the rest is (very cautious) trial and error.
Good luck!
Note: the majority of programming in Sunrise is understanding how Eclipse works (Sunrise is just a slightly modified version of Eclipse). I would recommend downloading eclipse and going through their tutorials if you are having trouble understanding how to create classes or using the interface itself.
