hello
Is there a way to connect a camera (cognex) with a fanuc robot without using Karel code. if its possible how can i send data from the camera to robot. The only way is to use Integrated Vision by Fanuc and buy their camera. If your using a 3rd party vendor (Cognex), you have to do the nitty gritty yourself since they won't do anything for free. The data won't extract itself.

our costumer want a camera cognex So no choice . Cognex has a document to outline the steps needed to connect and transfer data from a Cognex Camera to a FANUC Robot Controller but they use karel code. i think there is another way to do it

FYI: Cognex code doesn't work the way it is.
another option is to send to a PLC then to the robot.

There was a thread a while ago about how a Cognex can be addressed as a Ethernet/IP device. I'll see if I can look it up.
Found it: https://www.robot-forum.com/robotforum/fan…-communication/
Not as much info in that thread as I thought.

You absolutely 100 percent can talk to a cognex camera outside of Karel. You need the AB Scanner Ethernet IP option and can talk to an insight camera. I would have to go back through my notes as I did it last year but I got 4 cells in the field running on this. If you look at the cognex info they will tell you the instance and all of the other data that the fanuc scanner card needs to communicate.

kab3472, can you post any notes (or email) if you find them? I would like to do the same and do not want to deal with Karel.

I would be very grateful If you can poste your notes -
Well I guess I didn't think of trying it that way.
If it works with the Ethernet/Ip option then it would be just like setting up an I/o Bank. I don't know what you would use for your instances though.
Another thing to note is you would need the Ethernet/Ip Scanner option, the Adapter option would not allow the robot to host the comms to the camera.
Also another thing is the Ethernet/IP option was not added until the Rj3-iB or IA. Not sure exactly, but I know you can't get this option on the Regular RJ3 robot.
