What I have is an XRC controller and a SLC5/05 PLC.
I am currently using discrete signal from the PLC to call jobs from the master eg: Call Job: XXXX if IN# (1) =ON
What I am told is that we will need to be more flexible and call more jobs with less I/O. My hopeful solution is to use my discrete signals from the PLC to write a 4 bit binary word to the XRC controller. Then the XRC can convert this word to an integer, and I can use the Integer file to call the jobs. This way I can call 15 jobs from 4 bits. The other possible solution (I'm trying to avoid) is a multiplex maze of conditional Jump to's based on the same 4 discrete bits.
I'm having a hard time finding exactly how I need to do this, but I believe it should be possible. If anyone has attempted anything like this before, I could use a hint or two.
Thanks
