    Hi.

Will IRC5 controller send any warning message when SMB battery voltage is low and need to be replaced (robot is On,not shutdown and power on again)? Or is there any. solution to detect when SMB battery need to be replaced?

    Hello,

You can use signal SMB Battery Charge Low.

"If Status has the value SMB Battery Charge Low, the I/O signal is set when the SMB battery capacity is running low and the battery needs to be replaced soon. The signal is cleared when the SMB battery charge is okay.

There is only one battery in a normal single robot system. However, there can be up to 16 SMB batteries in a MultiMove system or when using external axes. The output is activated if any of the batteries need replacement.

An event log message gives information about which battery should be replaced.

SMB batteries are cyclically supervised every 10th hour. After replacing a battery, it can take up to 10 hours for the signal to reset. The value is saved during a restart."

    Thank you very much.

Will robot continue working when this system signal is On?

Probably yes after reset error but... I suppose that every 10th hour the new error will occur (as you can read in manual). I think it's should be repleaced as soon as it possible, because you don't know when battery will fail - and this could make much more complicated issue. It's a good behaviuor to take into consediration with this kind of signal for maintenance forecast. It's not a big deal to repleace battery (described in manual for every arm).

    Hi HyperLenon.

I setup a System output "SMB Battery Charge Low" with signal "co11". When I turn off robot controller and turn on again, I see 2 errors on Flexpendant: "Battery Backup Lost" and "Revolution counter not updated".

I guess the battery is discharged. But the signal "co11" is not ON. I leave the controller there and check again after 1 day, but "co11" remains "0".

Do you know why the system output "SMB Battery Charge Low" is ON in this situation?

It seems that the signal only reports a low battery, not a dead battery. I suppose, working without smb battery (either completely or with a dead battery) is not allowed - so you have another signals to detect that something is wrong.

Yes, does ABB support any signal to detect dead battery?

You can use this code: 38200 Battery Backup Lost.

    38200, Battery backup lost

    Description

The battery backup to serial measurement board (SMB) arg in

the robot connected to drive module arg on measurement link

    arg has been lost.

    Consequences

When the SMB battery power supply is interrupted, the robot

will lose the revolution counter data. This warning will also

    repeatedly be logged.

    Probable causes

This may be due to an SMB battery that is discharged or not

connected. For some robot models, the SMB battery power is

supplied through a jumper in the robot signal cable (refer to the

IRC5 circuit diagram), and disconnecting the cable interrupts

the battery power supply. Some earlier robot versions used

rechargeable batteries, and these must be charged for at least

    18 hours before working correctly.

    Recommended actions

    1) Make sure a charged SMB battery is connected to the board.

    2) NOTE! Disconnecting the robot signal cable may disconnect

the SMB battery power supply, triggering the battery warning

    to be logged.

    3) Reset the battery power warning by updating the revolution

counters as detailed in the Calibration or Product Manual.

    4) Replace the battery if discharged.

Then try to create background task to send this code to PLC. You can find nice explenation in this thread:

But when this error occurs, will Robot stop program execution?
