We have an LR Mate 200iD/7C, and it has a purge kit that is installed. The robot is installed in a glove box in a cleanroom. We no longer have a good relationship with the integrator that spec'd and installed the robot. I am assuming the air purge is used to keep environmental contaminants out of the arm, but I don't see anything the manuals I have that really defines what the option does.
Looking at the Mechanical Unit Operators Manual, I was able to find some excerpts about the purge kit, including a Note:
"4. Air purge kit cannot be used when using 7C/7LC in the clean room. It causes
particle generation. Except for clean room, such as food environment is
acceptable."
The purge air kit is currently feeding from an low pressure Argon/Helium supply line. The robot is currently used for precision positioning.
What is the purpose of the air purge kit? Should this option not be used as the robot is in a cleanroom? What would happen if the gas supply was not functional for a period of time?
Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon
