On the side, I've been playing with building a script to iterate through an entire (real) robot backup and ASCII-convert all the convertable files. And I've gotten to the point where it works perfectly well, except on one file: POSREG.VR.

For that one file, KConVars returns:

    Code
Error executing KConvars: Conversion of variable file failed:
    0x10000B: Unknown

My old RoboGuide install (from before my license expired) includes the correct core software version (8.33), and like I said, kconvars works on all the other .io, .sv, and .vr files in the backup. I've also tried making fresh backups of the robot, but I still get the same error.

I also tried it on a backup from a completely different robot of the same version, and got the same error.

I also got the same error trying on backups of robots with other versions, always on POSREG.VR.

Just for sanity, I tried deliberately using a backup from a robot whose version I don't have in RoboGuide, and got a different error, "Unable to load old library."

Anyone else ever run into this?

It sounds like the robot is available to you, do know that you can set the device to MD: and then just copy .VA of the variables, or just the specific ones you need?

I was vaguely aware of that (in the MD/*.* sense), but the typical backups I encounter are where someone simply did the "all of the above" backup type. Plus, I'm indulging my curiousity in what I can do with the command-line tools if/when I don't have RG available.

Still, that's good to know for future reference. Thanks!
