Hey guys,
I'm just beginning to dip my toes into the Fanuc side of Robotics and after completing a number of their training courses I have a couple of questions.
I will be sub contracting out to prospective clients in various areas and have one that are looking at programming and DCS configuration support and I have asked them to contact Fanuc to inquire how much and procedures for installing DCS and the 8 input, 8 output board.
(I'm aware DCS is already available on the emergency board, but this project requires the ability of hardwiring to additional IO locally provided within the Fanuc system).
They have come back with a ridiculous amount which involves Fanuc sending out an engineer just to:
a. Install the option
b. Install the board
Now, my question is:
1. Is this standard practice of Fanuc or is this something they are just exploiting as a cash cow by a Fanuc distributor.
- ie From a Kawasaki perspective, I would install the option myself and any additional boards, I am not forced to having to pay for an engineer to do this.
2. Has anyone here installed this option themselves and fitted the 8 input, 8 output board supplied directly from Fanuc.
3. I am not asking to circumvent any copyright or asking for any procedures, just experience of others dealing with Fanuc regarding their policy of additional options and support.
4. From my understanding, I could just send Fanuc a complete image, where they could activate the DCS and send me the image back, along with the additional board for me to fit.
- Has someone ever successfully done this with Fanuc, or has it always been from the perspective of a Fanuc Engineer to facilitate.
What I am intending to do is open up an account with Fanuc in order to be able to order equipment, spares and training etc and yes, I will of course ask these questions direct to Fanuc.
But I thought I would ask here first to get a feeling of other users experiences with 'Fanuc Support' regarding installation of additional options.
If their only policy is to only install options via a Fanuc engineer, then this may dissuade me from opening an account with them going forward.
Any additional information you could provide would be greatly received...…….
