Im looking for help/ suggestions with a business I'm looking to expand. I currently hand carve stone sculptures. These are small ( size of toaster). Im looking to automate the sculpting and be capable of a Lifesize human sculpture.
Ive looked at robots for a long time but it seems the software isn't as readily available as it is for a cnc. Also cnc may be more accurate and faster. Is my thinking correct with this? Any ideas or thoughts on how to approach this would be great. Thanks
6 axis robot or 5 axis cnc for 3d stone sculptures?

It al depends on the accuracy you need and budget you have. A 5 axis CNC machine is much more accurate then a robot can ever be, but as its drawback it is much more expensive. On the speed i think it all depends on the material you are working with. I mostly work with plastics but i can imagine that with milling stone the rigidity of robot can be problem and a reason to slow down.
As to CAM software for robots there are several options available, probably not as much as normal CAM software but enough. -
Sculptures need a lot of material removal.
This only can be done efficiently by diamond cutting disk not router bits.
Robot does not have the rigidity for attaching motor with cutting disk.
So cnc is more good option for sculpture. -
