Hi all wondering if any one can help me I own a irb6400r S4C plus controller I had to replace my hard drive unfortunately I only have the original key string from the previous own I built a system in robinstall but I get a pop up saying wrong key sting for options selected which is the factory option.
When the robot and controller arrived it did have factory options installed
Is there any way of finding the key string on the hard drive as I did make a copy before the hard drive failed or is there any other options
Any suggestion please

So, from the backup in your backinfo folder, copy key.id and program.id. Make a new folder in your mediapool, like 64-XXXXX, where X is your serial number. It is likely that you will find it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\ABB Robotics\Controls\V40\Robots
Copy those files into this new folder, open virtual robot browser or robinstall, highlight the name that you just created in your media pool. You will see the keystring in the information field. You can highlight that and copy it. -
Wondering is there any way to read the encrypted key file

There is a way to get the key strings that works in most cases but not always.
What you need is a backup from the system you had. Open Rob-install and click the Update button.
Point the program to your backup and update it. This will often cause the program to access the encrypted key.id and copy the key strings inside it out to a file that will be named key.txt or something similar, ( same location as key.id ).But as long as you have the key.id file you should have everything you need really.

My process is similar:
Make new temporary directory
Copy BACKINFO directory from the backup to new directory
Select Update in RobInstall and browse to & double-click on new directory
RobInstall will create a keystr.txt file in the BACKINFO directory that can be read.
Archive the text file
Delete the no longer needed temporary directory -

I tried it out today worked well thankyou -
Related to this same topic I think- I've noticed that some of my backups have backinfo, key.id and program.id but some of them only have the backinfo, can anyone explain why some of them would be missing the key.id and program.id? As mentioned above, I am able to use the robinstall update function to get the keystring, but apparently only when I have all 3 files; is there another way to get the keystring?

What controllers are you using? Maybe S4 will not have those files, S4C too. CHeck with this in mind and maybe you can confirm to us the differences.

whoops, it's only the S4C+ controllers. thanks
