I have a R30ib Compact Plus controller for a Scara Robot and I have some questions about the wiring diagrams. I'm a novice to robots and just trying to understand the wiring diagrams before hooking anything up. In reference to the attached photos can someone explain to me the areas noted with the arrows and also the 2nd picture showing the Spark Killer Diode. I'm not familiar with what this is and the symbol below that either. A google search hasn't help me figure it out. I would appreciate any help that you can offer. Thanks.

I have a new R30ib Compact plus controller with a SCARA. We don't use any special spark killing diodes. We always wire the outputs to optically isolated Opto modules instead of relays. Which would prevent any arcs and or sparks. We also use 2 different 24v sources for the different banks as they connect to different devices.

The spark killer diode is only needed if your are directly powering the load from the output and the load can cause back EMF. Typical example would be a solenoid. Some 'solenoid' devices come with a diode built into them, in which case you would not need to add one. I have never been in a situation where I needed to add my own diode, but it depends on what you are hooking up. Also keep in mind that the robot outputs are usually only rated for 0.2 amps each.
