we have a Fanuc 710i material handling robot with the RJ3IB controller that I am trying to get operational. I had it running about 6 months ago and the project was canceled. we put the 710i back in storage. now, there is a new project and trying to get it running again. but I get a "prio-020 common error 83,81,0 a communication error. I have checked all of the cable connections but I can not get ride of the error. I am new to robots and need some advise

thank you for taking the time to help. this must be older. I only have two vertical gray towers and they seam to be light up. I see green lights here and there. I did check the two green fuses with a meter.

Bro, I fought this problem for a long time. My issue was a bad communication cable between the robot i/o modules. Apparently, the communication cable was drooping down far that it was shorting out on another terminal. I would go and move around the cables and it would magically start working, and then after an hour or two I would get the same fault; all because the cable drooped down and hit the terminal.
Double check the main controller, if there are no errors on it, then it's definitely somewhere in your I/O chain. Make sure everything is grounded properly and make sure all your cables are secure and not drooping down like mine were. I was using BMD88A1 digital i/o cards.
Make sure you have the terminating resistor enabled on the last I/o module also and the very first one as well. Should be labeled "R" on the dip switch.
