Looking for what file i can take from my MD back up to edit it all digital I/O names off line in a txt editor and the the load into may robots so all my I/O in all robots is the same

All of that info is stored in DIOCFGSV.IO which is a binary file. You wont be able to easily edit that.
I usually write a karel program with all of the I/O comments pulled in from a spread sheet that I use for managing all of my projects.

got to be a better way I can open the .DG file and edit it in a txt editor but can not re load the DG file

If the I/O is exactly the same, you could use the web browser to quickly add comments to one robot. Then you could copy DIOCFGSV.IO to the rest of your robots.
