I/O unit

Hi
I'm trying to figure out how I/O unit works.
I have 2 control I/O units each has | IN: X1 | OUT: X2 | IN: X3 | OUT: X4 | and X5 . each has 10 connectors.
when i go to IO Signals (on controller) i see a lot of signals.
And the question is : How can I know which signal on the controller corresponds to the connector on the I/O unit ?
For example: The signal diBD_4 corresponds to X1 the 2nd connector(out of 10).
