Hello, I am a student working to try to get an old S10 Fanuc robot with an RJ controller up and running as more or less a project. The robot now needs a reload of the software. The software didn't come with the robot so we had to go out and buy software from Fanuc; however, this being an old robot, they didn't send us floppy disk, they just sent the files and KFLOPPY via email. The problem is when i try to load the software, it goes though and loads core 4, core 6, applications/tool 2, but when it gets to Library1 it just stops and doesn't do anything. I left it going for 5 hours just to make sure it wasn't me just being impatient. I'm trying to load the software using a windows xp and a usb to serial 9 pin adapter to connect to the controller.

Which software package are you trying to load?
What steps are you taking to load the software?
Try Holding the 2 User pushbuttons and the Hold button at the same time when powering up to get the Autoload Software prompt.
Select 75KB if you have 2MB CMOS.
Double-check the Kfloppy 'Change Directory' path location and make sure you have the correct path listed. After I enter in a path, I automatically hit 'Enter' twice to so I can review the path and make sure I didn't "fat-finger" anything and then press 'Enter' again and then F3 to emulate.
Sometimes R-J and R-J2 will lockup while loading software the first time but load just fine the second.
Welcome to the Robot-Forum and good luck!! -
Are you sure you have the right cable, In other words did Fanuc tell you this is the cable to use?
Mine is a 9 pin to the 25 pin on my controller and is made by my IT department. I tried all the usb converters and had nothing but trouble.
Good Luck -
Yeah, I think you probably need a null modem cable via serial port on your computer. I have a couple of these old S-10s, too. Seems like I would get hung up at the same point the first time around, but like Skooter said, it loads fine on the second try. Are you getting any errors or it just locks up?

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I figured it out. I wasn't starting the R-J Controller in control mode and instead just starting it up after an init start. Once I held down USER PB#1 and PB#2 and started the controller that way, it would go though the entire install.
