It looks like the dedicated input signal External Hold (EXT_IT) can be configured as a Hardware (TB2) or Software (Aux 111 or AS DEFSIG) dedicated signal.
I already have the external hold hooked up through the TB2 as a hardware dedicated signal.
Can I also hook up the external hold as a software dedicated signal?

Absolutely........
TB2 (pin 19 and 20 I think from memory) is delivered without any external connections.
- Therefore is in HOLD until either a link is connected or external contact.External Hold on TB2 is actually different than the Dedicated signal - I believe TB2 external hold was originally intended to be activated via a light curtain output (back in the single channel days)....guessing...
- Therefore you could have 2.
- BUT TB2 (this is ALWAYS active as it is a hard wired function) - try it - remove any external connection to TB2 pin 19/20 and you will notice the robot is in a permanent HOLD.
- The Dedicated Input is configurable either via a physical input tied to incoming 1GW/1HW/ArmID signal allocation (ie input 1001-1xxx), or set up/allocated as part of a fieldbus signal allocation, or as a software signal (2001 - 2256) which you could map simply to a toggle button on the Teach Pendant IF Panel. So you can either:
- Use TB2 on its own.
- Permanently jumper TB2 out and just use a separate input to 1GW/1HW (assign the relevant dedicated input 1001-1032).
- Permanently jumper TB2 and use a fieldbus supplied input (again assign the relevant fieldbus signal no. for the dedicated input.
- Permanently jumper TB2 and use a toggle switch to activate an internal signal (2001-2256) and assign the relevant dedicated input accordingly.
- Use TB2 via a physically mounted external switch/relay/contact.......as well as any of the above options too.......so the choice is yours really.I still don't know why the dedicated input it called EXT_IT.....maybe interruption...again just guessing......
Just remember if no contact/jumper is on TB2, then this will take priority and be in permanent hold, irrespective of any additional EXT_IT function
