Updates are not without risk. Software glitches and other unknown problems can occur.
Why are you updating? Is the update necessary to address an issue you are having? If so then go ahead. If not and you are updating for the sake of updating, I recommend you don't update.
Perform an image and an all files backup and then update.
The auto update will perform an all files backup as part of the process.
Please note if you have any I/O that is simulated it will be turned off. -
Does this also involve the Ctrl Start S/w install required Auto update?? if so where do i found the command of it on the r30ib, for the life of me i cant seem to find it.

The only thing I have seen that change after the auto update is the program name indicated in the variable "$shell_wrk.$cust_name:" when "OTHER" is selected in the Production Start Method in Prog Select Menu. The name dissapear after the Autoupdate.

[MENU] -- FILE -- [NEXT] button -- F4 INSTALL -- Select Autoupdate. it will ask you for a dir name of backups and then it will start the autoupdate.

I just auto updated 3 newer robots and it worked without any problems. It made an image backup on my USB drive and was pretty easy to do. I did have trouble at first and found that I needed to have the update files in the root directory, not a sub directory. I tried to auto update 2 other controllers with 7.5 and 8.2 and couldn't get those to work yet.

If anyone is having issues with this and is using an off-brand flash drive then try tracking down some SanDisk drives. I got this advice straight from Fanuc and have had no issues once switching to SanDisk. Ended up ordering 10 8GB drives off Amazon because small(ish) drives are getting harder and harder to find and Fanuc also suggest using a small drive for Autoupdate and robot backups.
Also Fanuc says to do a Cold Start when running Autoupdate.
