Dear,
We have an UP6 and now we have a big noise in the L axis.
It's a very bad mechanical noise, like sand in the axis.
Do you know if it's hard to disassemble it?
Have you got some documentation and advice?
Thank you for your help!

Hi wavemill,
I will shortly send you the UP6 manual , on page 11-3 you will see the exploded parts drawing, of the L axis .
If you have explored all options to pump new grease into this box , "care must be taken to remove vent plugs when doing this ", and only option is to disassemble , then do as follows. It's straight fwd just take your time.
* first , take a record of where the origin position is in case the datum key ways are not lined up at present , scribe a line if need be.
* have the L arm vertical & power "off ".
* Put a lifting tackle above the robot, fork truck forks are always good , and sling the ropes to take load when L axis is unbolted , get advise if need be .
* remove cover ( 2011) , this to give the cables more room to move when arm is unbolted.
* remove the 4 bolts (2002) holding he motor in , you might need to use the bolts screwed into the two taped
holes to help displace motor off its shoulder .
* carefully place motor to one side , do this carefully and you don't need to unplug the motor & encoder.
* at this point there should be a large amount of semi fluid grease flow out , be prepared with lots a rags, if little grease flows out then "your problem is obvious"
* the L is arm is now free to pivot without restriction , by moving the arm ( hopefully Your sling ropes are supporting the robot upper arms from immediate collapse ) you should be able to hear any more noises from the gear box.
* next remove the 6 x bolts (2004 ) to detach the arm from the gearbox , having already removed cover 2011 you should have enough slack in the upper arm cables to push arm to one side , hope you have supported the arm correctly otherwise there's bits of robot on the floor & you have retired for a bong & a bagel
* hopefully there is semi fluid grease to cleanup , if not then , more oops !
* the gearbox is now exposed , remove all he bolts (2008 ) to remove from the frame.
* once on the bench you can strip it down , take pictures of the disassembly so you can reassemble without using your memory ," if you have a memory like mine it pays not to rely on it to much ".
Note - as you know this is a zero backlash box & therefore grease is critical or hard facing within the box will be destroyed, if this is he case you will need to purchase a new one . Although most parts for the XRC machines are no longer new off the shelf , the gearboxes still are , as they continue to be used in many types & models of robots by several manufactures.
Have fun !!
