I have problem with irc 5.
I tried to upgrade from robotware 5.07 to 5.13 and I messed up.
I tried to format the original compactflash (256Mb) and it was corrupted. I bought a new one Kingston (4Gb) (Can i use this one ore is too big). I tried to used it but when turn on cabinet this message appear in flex pendant.
"connecting to the robot controller" but it can't connect
How can I install a new system? Do I need some files on the new compactflash for boot? Can I use a cardreader to copy those files?
please help me

you should load any working image to your new compact flash and open your controller with it. then you make c-start(cold start) and and create a system from your backup and download to your controller...

The IRC5 controllers compact flash is partitioned into two drives. The safe boot partition boots the controller to the boot screen when there isn't a system installed yet. So just copying a system onto a 4 gig drive will not work. I haven't found any valid way to partition a flash drive, but the little bit of info that's on the internet seems to indicate it can be done on a Linux computer.

try to GHOST (NORTON) the card from a working system card.....i have seen it work
You could also just order a new card from ABB.....

Hi Tony
Have you solved the problem yet?
Do you use Robot Studio?
Use system builder & build from back up.At the same time you can build with robot ware 5.14 (latest).Available for download from Abb.
Robot studio will create boot media for you.I do not use the online download to controller as it always causes me problems.Install system from usb making sure that the boot media is all that is present on memory stick.
X start on controller will take you to the system install area.I assume you have now obtained a flash card that is useable.
Hope this helps.

Hi Steve33,
In this momento i have the same problema with IRC5 controller, but I do know how to créate a system with RoboStudio, can you tell me how please
Thaks a lot. -
Tapia, in order to build a system, you will need:
1. A system Keystring.
2. Any drive keystrings you may have.
3. Any option keystrings you may have.
4. A copy of the robotware DVD, to install the version of RobotWare onto your computer.
5. A copy of RobotStudioOnce you have these, you will use the system builder in RobotStudio to piece everything together into a system.

goto system builder in robot-studio..... enter your control module and drive module key ( in XML files u can get all keys ) click next next next and finish
