Hey guys, I have integrated several automation cells with fanucs to PLC and to CNC's. We will be doing something new in a couple weeks and don't get to play around with settings prior to the move. Just want to know if there is anything i need to know in advance when getting two robots to talk directly with each other, no PLC. Both robots will be on a rail and traveling back and forth and "meeting" in the middle. Is it the same setup as a Fanuc CNC? any advice prior to the move will be appreciated.

Do you know what comm options are on each robot? This is pretty easy if you have ethernet/ip on both, and adapter on at least one of them.

both robots have EIP.
-
If one of the robots has adapter, you can set it up to talk directly to the other robot.

So, set one robot up as a scanner, and the other as an adapter, punch in the corresponding IP addresses, and pick a block of like 64 bits for the DI/DO? which is the master? looks like the adapter is read only. Wouldn't i need them to both be read/write?

Ok, that was very helpfull, considering i haven't had any robot classes and have learned by copying what is already on the floor from previous integrations. I will set up Robot 1 as Scanner, and Robot 2 as the adapter, both with I/O of 4 and 4. Rack 89, slot 2. From what i have gathered so far,
robot 1
Assembly instance Input 102 (the 1 indicates comm port? No idea on the middle digit. the two indicates slot assignment?)
Assembly instance Output 152
Configuration instance 100
Does this look right, and was i close on deciphering what the numbers stand for? Thank you for your help so far, very helpfull

You'll want to check your $eip_cfg, it is probably different on the older robot.
The instances look correct.

a little instruction sheet I made up with info I found and what I got from you PDL
Thanks for your help

Thanks for taking the time to put that together, I'm sure someone else will find it useful some day.
One other setting that is nice to have enabled is reconnect, this is found in the advanced configuration settings for the scanner:
This allows the scanner to reconnect to the adapter if it ever goes offline. Without this being true, you would need to power cycle the scanner robot.
