I'm trying to use the external start input (#20010) on a Motoman NXC100 controller. I connected pin 1 (+24VU) with pin 2 on connector X33 (which is the external start input) with a switch, but when I switched the servo on and put the controller in remote mode nothing happened. Also tried to use the external start in play mode with reserved start permitted and looked if IO was inhibit at pseudo input signals, as said in this forum, but that didn't work. Under operating conditions external start is permitted. Maybe I've connected it in the wrong way or I'm missing some settings, so I thought maybe you could help me?

Not sure where you are or what I/O board (NPN or PNP) is in the NXC. Unhook your switch. Measure the voltage on X33 pin 2 to X33 pin 35, 48, 53, or 57. If you measure about 24Vdc you have standard NPN sinking I/O. The print shows X33 pin 2 is external start. The circuit is sinking and must provide a path to common (024Vdc). Hook one side of the switch to X33 pin 2 and the other side to X33 pin 35, 48, 53, or 57. Once hook up go to IN/OUT in the Main Menu. Go to EXTERNAL INPUT. Navigate so yo can see 20010 or 2001x. Push the button on the switch. Is the status circle changing or the bit for 20010 changing from 0 to 1?

The voltage between pin 2 and pin 35, 48, 53 or 57 is indeed 24Vdc but when I connect the switch as you said and look at the external input status, nothing happens. It's very strange because IN01 (#20011) on pin 3 works fine when connected to +24VU on pin 1 so I thought this would be the same for external start.

I found the problem. IN01A was working because IN01B was connected to 024VU so when I connected external start B with 024VU and applied +24V to external start A everything worked fine. Thanks for your help!

Was getting ready to message you on that. I missed that there was an External Start A and External Start B. Part of in is in one manual and part in another manual.
Glad it is working now.
