the company I'm working at has purchased 3 Robots for use in a Washing enclosure. We have had two Axis 2 gearbox failures on two different Robots, the Robots have only been in use for less than 2 years. The Fanuc Service Rep mentioned to one of the electrician's the wrong Robot is being used. Some of our Engineers think the solution to prevent this is to change the grease in the gearbox more often. After watching the Robot movements it does a lot of overshooting, I'm thinking it's more of a load calculation, any ideas?

fanuc makes an arm for wet or extreme environments, cant remember what its called, but the axis are all under pressure when running to prevent fluid getting in.
Don't know if this would help, buts its made for this type of applications. -
What model robot is it? Can you post a video?

If you determine that it is a water issue they have sleeves that go over the arms often used by paint robots that might help. the arm I was trying to remember is the foundry pro.
Reccomended for severe environments. the arm is under internal pressure to keep water, or other fluids from breaching the seals. -
The Robot actually says wash Environment on the side and due to company policy, I'm not able to send a video of the process. We did look at the EOAT load values and they seem pretty close. I was wondering about the load calculation function and if anyone is familiar with that.

Contact your Fanuc sales rep and get the latest payload checker sheet from them. Assuming you have the COG and inertias of your end of arm tooling, you can punch those in and see if your robots are overloaded.
If not, I recommend pulling the off the tool, weighting it, slap it back on, pickup the part, add those two weights together, and then run the payload ID function (assuming your controller has it) with the following settings (which I got from one of the better Fanuc techs):
Type in your known kg value, then run 5 passes with:
1% 100%
1% 100%
10% 100%
15% 100%
35% 100%Are the robots being e stopped frequently? Seems J2 dies the fastest when this occurs.
