Hello,
I work for a forging company that we are planning to integrate an ABB IRB6600 with a S4C+ to a production line. The plan is to pick billets from a bin and place them conveyor. I have been charged with the task of finding a vision system that is compatible. Any reclamations. Thanks

Will a vision system be able to identify the billets in the bin?.
I worked on a similar project many years ago picking crankshaft blanks from a bin and used a search program to find them, when the electromagnet contacted a crankshaft the upward motion made a switch. The robot would place the crankshaft on a backlit table for the vision system to orientate the robot so it loaded the next process correctly.
This was mid 80's so maybe vision systems have improved?.

Hello RoboWeld
I'm pretty sure that the vision systems have improved a lot since then The processing power of computers has improved manyfold, and nowadays parts are typically scanned with 3D scanners, instead of just with 2D cameras. This makes the recognition a lot more precise.

Hello RoboticsMan, Thanks for the link. I have contacted Scape Technologies, but am hoping to fine someone that has offices in the US.

Hello wrench-head
Ok. Maybe you can find something on youtube? There are many videos of bin-picking, and I'm sure that some of them must have been made by companies with american offices. If you find a supplier, it could be nice to hear about your experiences with the system.
