i'm setting the controller as the scanner and trying to use the plc as the adapter. I can't seem to get it working correctly. I can ping them back and forth without a problem. i followed the manual and did everything it said. Has anyone else done this that can give me some good advice? Also the manuals says i need to put the vendor ID in and a two other things that i can't remember right now but how do i get that information from the plc?

Hi and welcome to the forum!, you will find lots of great help here.
Out of curiosity, is there any specific reason you are setting the robot as the scanner instead of the adapter?
What type of PLC are you using?
Thanks -Eric

Perkwes, What PLC? What communication module, if any?
Chipprogr,here is an example:
with Omron CP1H PLC, I have to use ~$1200 communication module to create EIP scanner (while the PLC itself costs me under $600), or use ~$150 EIP adapter communication module and buy the scanner option in the robot for ~$500. -
I'm using a compact logix. I was thinking since I bought the option for the robot to use as the scanner. Do I need an adapter card for the plc then?

Do not complicate things. Use the robot as an adapter.
For configuration, see my post in this topic:

+1 I second this.. Thats kinda what I was hinting at as well. No need to complicate things.

ok i changed it to the adaptor and it worked it shows running now with no alarms. But on the plc side when i force an input on i do not see it come on in the controller as an output. I thought i would be able to see it am i wrong here?

In the robot, you must configure UI/UOs and/or some DI/DOs to rack 89, which is the Ethernet/IP connection. For slot, use the connection number.
After that, activating an output in the PLC module will activate the robot input.
Activating an output in the robot will activate the PLC module input. -
What if I need the robot to be the scanner? Is there a recipe for the configuration? Thanks!!!

Once you set up EthrnetIP settings on the robot then need to configure DI,DO,UI and UO. And also GO and GI if you are using them. I usually interconnect RI's and RO's to operate them directly from the PLC.
I have attached a screen shot of configure screen for a Compactlogix PLC. I have used 11 words here. I think it's in bytes on the robot side. What is the part no of your Compactlogix?
I always make the PLC as the Master.
