Last weekend I witnessed a robot swap (1 to 1, not a new model) at my facility for the first time. The robot uses Cognex vision for guidance, so accuracy is pretty important. Naïve as I am, I thought that mastering the robot would be good enough to get us running again. However, that was not the case. As I do not know how the frames are setup, it was a major PITA to get the robot going again.
As we are going to swap a lot of robots in the near future, I started thinking about what I can do to prepare for it. I figure I could do a dummy frame. So I would teach a new frame before the swap, teach it again after the swap and then do math on the frames we actually use to make them work again.
Would that be the best way, or are any other methods? Maybe somebody already has a code ready?
