Hello,
I have some used robots and I want to repaint them. What is the correct procedure? The arms have many scratches, missing the color and generally is in bad looking condition. I want a professional looking painting as good as possible. Is it possible to remove the old color and then repaint them? Can I paint them with the old color untouched?

The real game changer is how much dirt and grease is presently on the used robot. There are many levels of quality for the job you are asking about.
Easiest job is a clean robot that does not need a colour change. Degrease, scratch the shiny paint, wipe clean, cover anything not painted like exposed harness, stickers and motors. Paint, move robot to expose unpainted areas, paint again.
Not easy is a dirty robot. Some dirty is hard to clean. Dry ice, sandblast, power wiring brushing are all methods not nice to seals, harness and motors. Again scuff or sand shiny paint. For a thorough job all unpainted parts are either masked off or removed. If there is a colour change you can not miss any part of the robot.
After painting, reassemble and apply new stickers. At this point you will probably want to install new motors and a new harness. Best but most expensive solution.
