I was recently assigned to start Programming a Fanuc R-J2 with no prior robotic programming. We use the Fanuc to cut plastic parts with a router bit. Giving that i have very little experience with cutting and the different tools I keep getting bullied into doing things another way without even giving my opinion a chance.
I am currently having to cut a part that has several holes that have a tight tolerance and there are no router bits in the market that fit within that tolerance.350±.005. I suggested to use a 9mm drill bit since it is only a hole but was shut down the reason being was "Fanuc is not designed to use a drill bit". Obviously using a helical twist with a .250" router bit to get a .350" diameter hole would not not be very precise since I would be eyeballing all 16 holes with the outdated software.
My questions are; is there anyone out there that uses a drill bit with a fanuc or any robot for that matter? is it not a common practice like i was told and why? What are some advantages or disadvantages as far as the finishing when all i will try to do is drill a hole.
