Hello,
I recently acquired a Staubli RX90 & CS7MB and had them delivered to my home. Since my home doesn’t have 3 phase, does anyone have experience using phase converters? The cost of phase converters is pretty wide (less than $200.00 to thousands of $$). The manual states 3 phase 208 (US) and max current of 10AMPS on each phase. The system is being used at lowest speeds for SAR measurements.
I would appreciate any help on how to select the proper phase converter.
Thanks

In April of this year I bought an RX60L and CS7MB which I installed in a spare bedroom in my home. As you learned, 3 phase power is generally not an option for home use. In fact I posted a question to this board at that time asking of it was possible to run the controller single phase. I struggled with the different options available for 3 phase power generation getting advice from various sources. I was told I could use anything from an inexpensive 1 to 3 phase power inverter (square wave output) to very expensive electronic units that simulate a 3 phase sine wave output. I ended up buying an AD-10 from American Rotary. I was tempted to drastically undersize the 3 phase unit since I would not be running the robot at high speed. My CS7 is rated at 4400VA and the AD-10 has an output rated at about 5.5KW.
I'm glad I spent a little extra money to get an adequately size converter. I decided it was better to protect my investment in the robot and controller than saves few bucks with an undersized unit. Turns out the CS7MB does a good job of heating my robot lab even when the robot is idle with servo power enabled. This tells me I would have been pushing a low power converter too hard if I had gone the cheap route.
And, American Rotary is top notch. I had a couple of issues with my order and their customer service reacted with lightning speed and made everything right. The AD series converters are designed to be used with electronic equipment as opposed to the AR series which are designed for running motors. My advice is don't skimp on your power source. I'm extremely happy with the converter as well as the performance of the robot.

Redwingz,
Thanks for the reply. I did see your original post regarding the phase converters but didn't get enough info from the replies. Glad to hear it is working. I have narrowed down my selection and plan to order soon. I will write back within this post describing my experience.Very good point regarding the heat! You are right and I now recall the heat when I used these systems with former employer.
Thanks again for the reply!

All,
I purchased a 7.5 HP rotary phase converter from North America Phase Converters. Recall I have a RX90BL with controller CS7MB and so far everything is working fine. Both Staubli and North America Phase Converter representatives did an awesome job helping me figure out the necessary requirements for the phase converter.
Many thanks to them!I hope this post is helpful to others.
I will try to check back from time to time to see if anyone has questions.
Good luck!Regards,
