Guys we have an older ABB robot with an S4 controller at one time we were using it (Our robots are used for welding) It had some issues bull's-eye, seam tracking and various software probs so we replaced it with a 4400L which of course uses the IRC5 controller. Now we are thinking about resurrecting it, we had a tech look at it the robot itself is in excellent condition so we were considering upgrading to an IRC5 controller which they said could be done. But we are undecided would it be practical to keep the S4 controller what would our programming limitations be as compared to the IRC5? How could we justify the cost of upgrading the controller to IRC5 would it be worth it? We have one programmer and 3 operators they only know IRC5?
I sure would like to hear how you guys feel about this.
