I recently got thrust into a project head first without any previous experience with Fanuc robots (or any industrial robots, for that matter). I've been reading the manuals I was given in addition to several articles/forums online about PC-robot communication via ethernet. While searching for the location of the two ethernet ports that are supposed to be on the controller, I noticed that the illustrations in the manuals and online are of a single unit. The R-30iA controller that I have is composed of two units, similar to the attached image. The box with the iPendant hanging from it and the larger box on the bottom level of the frame are both labelled as being "Fanuc System R-30iA" units.
I'm mainly wondering whether there multiple versions of the R-30iA controller, and if so, how can I differentiate between them when searching for information online?
Are there different versions of the R-30iA controller?

Well kind of! There is the first gen so to speak called RJ3iC, it was changed later to R30iA because that was Fanuc's CNC controllers name. There is no real difference between these two.
You have what is called the OP box and I cabinet.
There is another cabinet vcalled the B cabinet. It has everything in one cabinet. Your's has the operator box with I/O and safety signals and the Operator panel.
Most of the components are the same however, CPU, servo amp, power supply ect. -
We have both RJ3iBs and R30iAs and the servo Amplifiers are different.
