So, you _do_ know that Emacs is the only noteworthy competitor to Vim and have tried neither? Let me assure you, I can speak only for Vim, that you can get as "efficient" as with Notpad++ or UEdit in a short time, but if you are motivated and willing to learn your tool, you can get far beyond that soon after.
I used to use UEdit with my own syntax file, macros, RegEx Search/Replace. I was kind of quick compared to some people I could watch over their shoulder. I still think UEdit is a good editor, but I will never look back! Use what ever suits your working style, but keep in mind: a good editor shortens the time between 'I know what I want' and 'I'm done'.

for me, notepadding is everything from using Notepad++ over UEdit and Sublime to RobotStudio and WorkVisual.
