As TygerDawg suggested the return code -2 indicates that there's no "alter" option installed.
In order to get alter mode usable, you need to install either the "alter" license or activate the demo license in configuration file /usr/configs/controller.cfx:
Add following line: <String name="alter" value="demo" />

the default profiles on the CS8C controller allow following users to access the controller via FTP: "default" and password empty and "maintenance" password "spec_cal". Once you gained access via FTP you can modify the profile configuration files in "/usr/configs/profiles" either using a text editor or use the profile editor integrated in Stäubli Robotics Studio.
Contact Stäubli support to get hold of a set of documentation. AFAIR you have to be a registered integrator at Stäubli in order to get more out of the knowledge base - access to content might be restricted otherwise.
