Ok... for anyone reading this, and anyone in the future who may need the same information, I have solved the issue by using the Ethernet IP Scanner option to map the camera I/O to Digital and group I/O. If anyone's interested in more detail, drop me a personal email.

Hello all,
I have a complex problem that I need to solve. I have to interface a new (R30iB) Fanuc with a Cognex Insight 5400 series camera using EIP and to pass VGR data to the robot. I am aware that a Karel solution to do this using Socket Messaging exists, but this is not a palatable solution to our customer, so I could really use some assistance with the EIP. PLC communications are also not an option in this case.
I have set up an EXP_MSG connection to the camera and under certain conditions I can get a response from the camera. However, based on the settings for class, instance and attribute specified in the Cognex EIP manual, the responses are unintuitive. For one thing, everything I get back is in hex and is (at the moment) meaningless... here are the specific questions I have:
1 - How do I interpret the meaning of the hex codes being sent back.
2 - If I manage to find useful information (looking specifically for positional offsets from the camera), how do I handle the data on the robot side? i.e. copying it into a position register.
3 - Even if I get some sensible results from the current setup, can I have this messaging run automatically, without having to use a Karel program? If so, how?
I really appreciate any assistance anyone can offer. So far, the tech support staff at Fanuc and Cognex really have no clue how to do what I am trying to do.
