I last programmed ABB robotic systems about a year ago but for thermal spray processing as opposed to welding. You are correct, MIG welding is the process and I am familiar with the settings of Seamdata and Welddata to configure the welding parameters. The problem lies in that one cannot weld by numbers so to speak, it is all about interpreting the weld puddle and the arc as a human does which would require adjustment to the process to guarantee a high standard of quality. While settings can be pre programmed, the importance of being able to modifying dwell times, travel speed, and voltage to tune the arc and control the weld puddle cannot be stressed enough especially when transitioning throughout multiple orientations.
So back to the original question, is it possible to modify these parameters in real time? Has anyone written code to somehow override the settings of the preprogrammed seam/weld data thus allowing for adjustment to be made?
Thanks for the help!
