thanks to all of you for the info, i will troubleshoot from that and i will report back

i will try capacitors and psu, cmos battery, hdd maybe even ram and see how that goes

(i know none of them should cause it directly except ram but every one of them can result to system running with hiccups on the supply rails for the ICs which may be the cause of the issue, many times those things have caused mysterious behaviour on many machines)

so what part would be considered the "kernel"? (which will hopefully help me troubleshoot the issue)

i am so confused right now. i thought the kernel was the computer... could it be the first board you see when you open the cabinet? because the is a kind of worn IDC cable going from it to the pc (not sure if it could do that anyway)

is it even in the cabinet or is it in the robot? (though i think the only thing that goes to the robot is power for the motors and the encoder cables but still i could be wrong, no idea)

if i understand what you are saying correctly though both parts are running on the hdd?

Hello again, i finally put my vkrc1 (converted to krc1) in auto mode and it worked.

well almost, every now and then it stops and after some seconds i get an error "no connection to kernel system"

    what could it be?

i suspect it some connection issue between the teach pendant and the pc or it might be the hdd dying (since the pendant buttons become totally unresponsive (even e-stop)), but i could be way too wrong, and sadly i cant find any documentation on this error.

    anyone seen this before?

well i can't thank you enough for the help, i thought the robot wasn't really 0 just by seeing it but i could work with an offset, i didn't think i could do it that wrong.

"Cartesian position has no valid value until a Base and Tool are activated."

is this necessary to stop the "work envelop exceeded" error?

any tips on how to do that?

So after a total mess in the wiring i had to fix (kind of expected on such a cheap piece) i managed to get it to stop the errors, well short of.

problem is untill i fixed everything wire related that the previous owner did in order to make it run, the betteries run out, i know about the EMT but that is about as much as i got the robot if not higher. Now for the dial method i must have done something wrong, i know some you will think i did a very dumb mistake but i am totaly new.

i got the axis need mastering errors on all 6 axis, i used a micrometer dial with a magnetic base. i got the robot at the mastering position matching the white notches and then i used the micrometer on manual mode to fine tune it. i went to setup->master->dial and checked all axis. it said it was ok "robot mastered". i went to run a simple program and i got the "work envelope exceeded" error, here i found this Error 1342 WORK ENVELOPE EXCEEDED

which led me to check the cartesian position of the robot where it shows nothing on all 6 axis. Did i do something wrong or does this happens sometimes and i need to just do it again?

booting into dos is resolved, i was pressing shift too early, and yes those are the news

""it wasnt a day, but i had a busy week."

    why do you mention this?"

kind of useless info yes, but i felt like letting people know anyway

""some people can "convert" their vkrc1"

sure they can... are you suggesting you want to do the same? if so what is the controller version, KSS/VSS version of your system?"

uhm if it is to help me yeah i would look into that too, although if i could just get into expert mode that would be fine.

i will check the KSS/VSS version asap, i dont know this right now, as i said i am a noob

    ""so now what?"

please read pinned topic READ FIRST. when asking for help be specific. what is the problem exactly?

did you contact seller or manufacturer? did you search this forum?"

i contacted the seller but from what i understood he is not too much into how these things work, i will contact kuka although given those weren't built for any other use other than VW plants i have my doubts that they could help. Basicaly if anyone has keyfiles that they could share it would help me a ton but i don't know if it goes against any copyrights so i am not sure if can actualy ask for such a thing. (though i have bought the machine and like what could i use these for except for just that? but i know laws can be weird at times) other than that it might be serial number specific keys, so that maybe wouldn't even help, maybe someone could know of a way to generate such keys or whatever.

""There is no keyfile on my D drive, neither in C or anywhere for that matter"

it was already stated that key file is supposed to be on a removable media (floppy or CD). there was a slim chance someone would leave it on the hdd... that would be same as leaving key in the front door lock. keys are supposed to be portable and kept in secure place."

makes sense, however didn't recieve such a cd/floppy, so i had hopes

Hi, i am totally new to kuka robots, i found a cheap working vkrc1 and got it, i managed to make it work but it will only excecute each command separately.

i try to login as "expert" but it shows a message of a keyfille missing. (might be an entire different issue, so sorry if i am that much of a noob:frowning_face:)

    i have found this

    https://wiki.hackerspace.pl/projects:kuka

but after i pressed shift i got into dos which i have no idea how to work on (i know cmd but i got to find dos is a different beast) so if anyone can provide me with steps on how to do that (if it even fixes anything) i will greatly apreciate it.

Also i have seen that some people can "convert" their vkrc1 to krcp1 but how do i find the krcp software?

    thanks in advance
