Thanks for all the wonderful help: The forum is invaluable!
I've updated a R2000i (Rj3iB) to latest rev of the OpSys and updated all of the utilities. It's in production so we're cautious about scrapping the work already on it. I'm a tenderfoot on this machine at this point.
I learned that in the distribution set from Fanuc, there is the "base load" and the authorized options, some of which I need to go forward with the programming for a Cognex camera and some "science projects." Below is a list of the options on the Authorized package. The ones marked are installed at this point. Some, for reasons that they looked relevant by name to some of the stuff we’re going to try.
Here's the current dilemna:
1. PRIOR to the install of the options below, I hooked a 232 null modem cable to the port and immediately got a KCL> prompt via Hyperterm (Vt220 emulation). When the “edit” command is issued, the msg returns “Karel editor not installed.”
2. In purchasing the updates, I recall specifically discussing needing the Karel pkg with Fanuc and noting that it was supposed to be in the kit. Soas - looking through the kit, I note the Karen components, specifically the Karel EDT/Trans/Comp set – assuming it’s the editor, translator, compiler.
3. The Socket Msg option was installed in the first update so the IP stuff is there. We’ve done a very basic config on the IP to where it can ping the camera, PC, etc on a local hug – no routing yet.
4. Upon loading the red-marked list of options (attached) , things go from maybe to maybe not as follows:
a. The 232 connection (P4) no longer returns the KCL prompt. As one uses the 232 Login to KCL, it returns an ?emulation-
scrambled? version of the TP screen.
b. As the TP is switched on/off, it attempts to echo the TP to the 232 socket.
c. I can login using Hyperterm and an IP connection, but see the same with sync problems.
5. I’ve configured the 3 rs-232 connections setting all but the P4 to “None” so they cannot respond to the 232 terminal. That appears to have worked on but when one logs into the KCL, it returns the above as noted.
6. Via dos prompt, an FTP login to anon/guest and a setup username/pass looks normal as I would expect. I see the RJ3iB response
from the Fanuc and there are no directive errors that are displayed.
a. The dir(ectory) command yields no response and a temporary lock-up of the FTP session. ^C cancels it within about 30 seconds and
returns the FTP prompt.
b. I’ve yet to get a response from the robot other than a login acknowledgment. None of the FTP commands seem to return data/dir
from the fanuc.
7. (Dos) Telnet connection returns an immediate login prompt. If I use the KCL username, it returns the same as above?
8. (Keeping in mind I’m the tenderfoot with this system) Is there a register/variable that names the originating program/process for the KCL prompt? Where? What’s it’s correct name for the variable?
9. I’m suspecting the J535 option “CRT/Keyboard manager” may be a problem as I read that it’s closely related to use with the OLPC and RoboGuide packages.
Questions:
1. Is it possible to edit a Karel program on-controller with the 232/ethernet connection at the KCL prompt? What software options are required to do so?
2. Per above, what's the deal with the ftp not responding to get, put, and dir commands,
3. ANY observations are welcome.
Thanks All!!
