I know its way late to reply to this but I use a OmniDrive USB2 drive. It connects to my desktop computer thru usb cable and works with my motoman backup cards and also works for my SRAM 2MB cards I use for the older Fanucs we have here. It's done me very well in the last 2 years with no problems but the drive will cost you about $500.

I have a Fanuc R-J2 controller Handling tool setup and operations manual I've used for our 420i W robots. Our robots actually have the spot tool software for welding but this manual is 1143 pages and covers a lot of good information.

The Kuratas robot is much better choice. The Americans also made a robot similar to Kuratas and they were supposed to have a dual a couple years ago. Don't think it ever happened but if you have a few million dollars laying around you can own a Kuratas robot.

I've had a similar problem with an RJ2 controller and ended up having the board repaired at a facility in the USA. Cost about $1200 but it came back with warranty. I still have that contact info if you feel that is the route you want to take.

Not sure what I'm missing here but in the left panel view of your images under Tool frame there is an 8 but under the coord key you have selected 9. Both images top and bottom show tool frame 8 but looks like there is a mismatch between what is identified and what is selected but I could be wrong. Are you using tool frame 8 and user frame 9? Or are you trying to make them both frames number 9?

    Hello,

Do you have an option under instruction for a number 8 (next page)? There are often multiple pages under INST. On our RJ2 the OFFSET/FRAME is on the second page then I can choose UFRAME_NUM=.

Thanks for the reply. I found a company that specializes in repairs and they have controllers for testing boards etc. ICR Services. Not sure if it's allowed to post their website but if anyone needs work done or help with controller boards I would recommend them. They helped me with controllers from RH up to RJ2 and newer. One of the few places I found that can actually diagnose cpu boards, axis control boards, servo amplifiers and more. Thanks again.

    Hello,

Does anyone know what the difference is in the last digits on the part numbers between these 2 boards?
My current board has a part number of: A16B-3200-004 0/05D and looking at replacement board with number: A16B-3200-004 0/06D.

The last digits vary, some are 4C, 6D, 7D, etc. Does this effect functionality?
I assume its a revision difference but can't find any information on it.

    Thanks.

Did some digging in the variables and found that in our variables: $SHELL_WRK. $KAREL_UOP=FALSE were set to TRUE. Since we are not using the UOP for this system I had to set them to FALSE and reboot. After that the system would start the master program by pressing the Cycle start button on front of controller. Thanks!

After wiping the FROM and CMOS and reloading software the system still had troubles so I swapped boards from an identical controller from a system in back we don't use. Loaded the system files from a production robot that is similar to the problem controller, remastered the robot and got back on track after rewriting some programs. Now everything is backed up on SROM 2mb cards and welding parts. Fixed it a week ago but figured I would answer my question in case anyone else was wondering.

    Hello,

I recently swapped out CPU board on RJ2 controller with S420iW robot and wrote a few programs. Programs run in teach mode but when put into auto mode I clear the faults and press cycle start and nothing happens. I get a message on teach pendant with APSH-057 No Group Input. I can't seem to find anything obvious between this robot/controller and the other identical systems that are working. Is there a variable stuck somewhere or something? Any info is greatly appreciated. THANKS!

    Hello,

We have a Fanuc RJ2 controller hooked to an S420i W arm with Spot weld software. When I was first approached by operator they stated the teach pendant was not responsive or booting up when the controller was powered up. We have 6 of the same identical systems and have swapped pendant and cables already to determine they were not the cause of the problem. Seemed to be the lithium CPU battery had gone dead and from the service records it was a 1 month overdue from the annual service change. We have new batteries in stock so I installed new battery but still same problem. Seems I needed to do an INIT start since there were no backups. I began the INIT process and once I was able to get passed the robot type info and reached the payload information. Shortly after that I got an error screen I’ve not seen before and my picture was not very clear due to dirty pendant screen so I typed out what was said in message. Message read:
    Controlled start initialization Error screen
    Load group 1 robot library
    Opening path: \SMC.COM.
This file cannot be read. Check disk using BMON> DIR and BMON> TEST DISK. If the file is missing, replace the disk. Else replace the drive. Do not continue to load if read errors occur or your system might be corrupted. Consult the installation manual.
    Press Enter to continue.
    (Loading from disk SLIB2.)

Robot will not let me finish INIT or boot up. I found an old IBM Think pad with the KFloppy program and a cable for transferring data but have not been able to connect to robot thru the RS232 port. I’ve used the same process when getting another one of our robots up and going but this particular system won’t boot passed the Boot screen holding PREV and NEXT buttons. I have an extra controller I can use for parts, and the appropriate SRAM 2mb PCMCIA cards on the way but would it be safe to swap out CPU’s or should I find a way to reinstall the software? We do have an old backup, and not worried about having to re program the parts. Just wondering what the next best step would be for us to take. I’ve checked all the voltages according to the manual under Class 1 fault but I’m assuming since CPU battery died the software has been corrupt and we need to reinstall or change boards? I do have 3 status lights on CPU that are on. Lights 2, 3 and 4 (Green on top row) are on. According to the manual the Axis control printed circuit board need replaced. Any advice is appreciated.
