  • KRC-1 HDD clone Stuck: Verifying DMI Pool Data

    • BurtGummer

    Thank you for your replies,

Tried other cloning methods, used a raw image this time and still end up stuck at DMI Pool verification==> missing operating system.

Cable should be ok, had to replace it as original one broke (old plastic got brittle and broke), I don't think the problem comes from the new cable and it was installed correctly as shown in your attachment and the original HDD boots fine with it.

I really have the impression that my cloning went fine but for some reason the CMOS doesn't update with the new HDD.

Found an AT/PS2 adapter on amazon but I have to wait 1 week to get it.

If I reset the CMOS by removing the battery 5 seconds or set the jumper to CMOS reset (If present on that motherboard) would I risk bricking it as it still boots with the original hdd for the moment?

I have no idea to which bios settings it would reset the motherboard and as it's not a common PC I don't want to mess anything up

    Hello guys,

As advised on another post by SkyeFire I have been working on cloning the Hard drive of my KRC1 but sadly it ended up being very frustrating.

The original hdd I found in the machine is a 60gb Toshiba, but when connected to clonezilla it shows up as a 30gb, the two partitions are quite small (around 2gb each).
I suppose the HDD firmware was flashed in order to make disc show up as a 30gb.

I tried a bunch of HDD's and if they are larger than 32gb they will not get detected in the post, I ended up purchasing a Hitachi 30gb that finally shows up and has enough room for the cloning process.

I made two Images using a full sector disc image and a regular disc image.
I tried those images in a Virtual Machine and they both seem to work fine, they just get stuck when VxWorks wants to start and checks for material compatibility on the VM which is normal.

But now comes the problem, in the first post the Master HDD and the CD Rom get detected without issues, then it gets to :

    Verifying DMI Pool Data .......

and fails showing up this message:

    Missing operating system.

From what I found out online apparently this error happens because the motherboard has a different value stored in the CMOS for the boot options, it can happen when changing a HDD, normally accessing the BIOS should give me access to an advanced option to reset this value so it can move forward in the booting process with the new hdd.

Another page suggested that it could be a jumper setting problem as depending on the HDD manufacturer jumper positions can vary. I think I tried every combination possible but basically either the Hitachi was detected in post as primary or no disk was detected so I doubt it's a jumper related issue.

Do you guys know how I could access to the Bios as the teach pendant keyboard seems to do nothing during post? I tried connecting an old keyboard to the PS2 socket in the back of the teach pendant but it never worked.

Is the Bios even accessible or is it password protected?

Any input would be highly appreciated,

    Thank you, regards,
    Burt

Thanks a lot for your advice, I will start by backing up the hard drive before I end up with a bricked robot.

Oh really.. thanks for the feedback, really thought that strange film layer on the screen was for the air-gap of a touchscreen but it's more likely it's just a thick layer as it's an industrial handheld controller.

Glad to know I haven't lost any functionality then :bravo:

    Quick update [SOLVED]
I started the day by taking everything apart to check for material issues and found out that the bracket that you screw in place to secure and hold the MFC card in the PCI slot was bent probably during previous maintenance on the machine, resulting on an improper engagement and contact in the PCI slot.

So I'm pretty happy that was an easy fix. :top:

Here are some pictures of the bent connector, touch screen still not working but not really an issue as there are buttons to access all the functions.

    Hello everybody, :hi-bye:

A few months back I bought an old Kuka KR30-1 with a KRC1 control, the seller told me it was in good working order but I only got time to power it up today for the first time and can't go past the startup, when I powered it it cleared the POST with no issues, went on booting windows 95, but before it could load the desktop I got the error you can see below.

Translation: (The RTACC VxWorks Shared Memory Network network card is faulty. You may need to reinstall it. For more information, see "Network Troubleshooting" in Windows Help)

There is an orange spot on the screen that indicates that it got pushed hard during transport (the transporter left a heavy chain on the touchscreen during transport), probably dead pixels and maybe a dead touchscreen but I have no idea if it's really dead as nothing is responsive (the mouse isn't moving and no buttons seem to work). I haven't figured out a way to click ok on the error message box so I just assumed that the system is frozen due to the error.

Checked all cables and cards but haven't tried reseating the cards as everything seems super clean in the cabinet and they are screwed in place and hold by rails. Capacitors seem fine too, no broken or loose cables..

I have zero practical experience with Kuka robots but have a good background with cnc equipments and can usually do most repairs and maintenance myself, I also read most manuals I found on this machine and am more or less confident with my ability to program and configure it.

Here is the front tag of the KC1

Before doing any harm to the machine I preferred asking to the pros on this forum, if anyone has an idea on how I could get rid of this error I'd really appreciate your help.

Thanks a lot, have a nice day, best regards, :beerchug:
    Burt
